Leicht celebrates 105th anniversary
Company has become an industry leader
in supply chain services
Green Bay,
Wisconsin – (October XX, 2008) – There have been extensive changes at Leicht
Transfer & Storage Co. in Green Bay since its founding 105 years ago.
However, the one constant has been an unflagging commitment to safely providing
customers with the integrated supply chain services they need to be competitive
and successful.
Leicht was
started in 1903 by T.M. Leicht, who began his hauling business with two horses
and a flat wagon. As the firm grew, he kept putting the profits back into
people, equipment and buildings.
Since then,
the company has continued to expand its capabilities that now include 24/7
warehousing, distribution center operations and order fulfillment. Leicht also
specializes in export crating and offers machinery and heavy equipment handling
and storage services.
In 2001, RGL
Holdings, Inc., was established as the holding company managing Leicht. Other
companies under the RGL umbrella include RGL Specialty Services and Checker
Logistics. RGL Specialty Services
provides in-plant material handling, distribution center operations,
transportation brokerage and co-packing services. Checker Logistics provides full-service
truckload transportation, warehousing and distribution center operations
services.
According to
Steve Evans, president of Leicht, the company has distinguished itself through
its diversified supply chain service capabilities, its technology, and its
highly experienced workforce and management team.
“Our order
fulfillment, cross-dock, co-pack and in-plant materials handling are differentiating
services for us. We use technology to help improve efficiency in order to keep
our customers’ costs down,” Evans said, noting that the company installed a
radio frequency bar code warehouse management system (WMS) approximately six
years ago and is now adding a labor management system (LMS) to continue to
improve productivity.
Evans added
that the company has significantly strengthened its management team in the last
five years. “We have built a solid team with a lot of experience and the capabilities
to take on new projects and new customers,” he said, citing examples that
include expanded capabilities in order fulfillment and full-service
distribution center operations.
Another
notable aspect about RGL Holdings is its commitment to safety. Bob Johnson,
chief executive officer of RGL Holdings, said the company is committed to
operating in the safest way possible. “This is the bedrock value of our
organization. We are going to be safe in everything that we do,” he said.
RGL Holdings
just recently passed one million hours without experiencing a lost-time injury.
“This is the first time that this has happened in our more recent history, and
we are continuing to build on this result,” Johnson said.
RGL Holdings
is also environmentally focused. It is a member of the EPA’s SmartWay program,
an initiative in which companies can become certified for acting on a
commitment to reduce energy consumption. “Some examples of our environmental
investments include new high “miles per gallon” tractors, auxiliary power units
to reduce idle time, and high efficiency lighting in our warehouses,” Johnson
said.
As Johnson
pointed out, there have been a lot of changes at the company over the past 105
years but the foundation remains the same. “We got started by providing
creative supply chain solutions for our customers. This creativity, flexibility and
responsiveness to our customers remains our philosophy today.”
RGL Holdings
has also become known for its commitment to the greater Green Bay area. The
company has a history of making various charitable donations to the
community. The waterfront property now
known as Leicht Memorial Park was donated by Russ Leicht and his mother
Margaret.
